Practical Workshops – 2026

Understanding Powder Flow / Characterisation Techniques / Pneumatic Conveying / Dust Containment and Filtration

Workshop Week

Delegates will be able to use equipment  relevant to specific topic areas of interest. There will be  plenty of opportunity to ask questions from the experts. The aim of the Workshop Week sessions is to give delegates an insight into how and why the various techniques are used, and how these can enhance bulk materials handling services offered to Industry.

Should your topic area of interest not be featured below, please contact us to discuss and we may be able to add a session to the calendar during the year.

Course Dates: 16 – 19 March

Each course will begin at 10:00 and will aim to finish by 15:30hrs.

Monday 16 March: Pneumatic Conveying
Course Leader: Dr Atul Sharma

1.Introduction
2.System Design Methods
3.Conveying Trials using an Industry Scale Test Rig
4.System Design – A Worked Example
5.Troubleshooting and System Optimisation

Tuesday 17 March: Understanding Powder Flow
Course Leader: Dr Vivek Garg

1. Introduction
2. Measuring techniques
3. Case Studies
4. Testing
5. Analysis and Interpretation of data
6. Use of Virtual Tools

Wednesday 18 March: Characterisation Techniques
Course Leader: Dr Vivek Garg

1. Introduction
2. Case Studies
3. Particle Size Analysis
4. Particle Shape Analysis
5. Density Measurements
6. Use of data to solve the case study
7. Use of Virtual Tools

Thursday 19 March: Dust Containment Methods and Filtration
Course Leader: Dr Baldeep Kaur

1. Dust emission and dust extinction moisture measurements
2. Filter media
3. Particle size analysis wt basis and volume basis –with some bulk materials, the wt of dust fraction is low but volume is high – it is important to emphasize that volume measurement of fines fraction might give us more information.
4. Impact of degradation and segregation on dust generation – brief introduction in relation to dust generation only.
5. Measures to reduce dust generation in processes
