Production machinery continually requires improvements on higher quality, efficiency, carbon footprint, and energy use. In the optimization of existing and the design of new installations, process control is an essential ingredient. In this course, you learn how to apply control systems correctly.
This course gives an overview of possible process control systems. It gives you the know-how to choose and set up process control solutions to get the best out of existing systems. Thereby, use is made of software, the PID Tuner. As a participant, you receive a license for this software, so that you are able to use this in your daily practice. You also learn how you can solve common process control problems with advanced control solutions.
Starting with an overall picture, we dive into more and more detail. You practice with real-life simulations. Experimenting with user-friendly hard- and software will improve your practical skills.
Optimizing process control systems
This course has four modules.
- Module 1: Choosing the right measurement and process control system presents how to design, in a structured manner, the process control systems in a plant: define the targets for control systems, decide on key performance indicators, intervention mechanisms and actuators (the details of the control systems solutions are dealt with late in the other modules of this course)
- Module 2: Classical process control systems; PID-tuning gives you an overview of the standard basic control designs with a clear explanation of how to optimize the parameters of these designs. The participant will exercise with the different designs in a test setup
- Module 3: Advanced process control solutions present the more advanced control solutions: we shall zoom in on each of the advanced control solutions, what you can achieve with it and how to set it up.
- Module 4: Realisation and implementation of advanced process control systems show how to implement the solutions from module 3 in such a way that risks on production stops and production losses are minimized. You will be introduced to, and exercise with a generic method to deal with different types of control hardware (PLC, DCS, MES, etc.) In exercises, you will be instructed personally by one of our teachers how to implement and adapt a process control system yourself and how to test it. This module is especially aimed at each participant of module 3, who wants to learn actually how to implement advanced control systems in their own production environment.
Engineers who want to improve and extend their knowledge on process control systems, and who wish to learn and understand more on the practical issues in implementing these systems.
You can follow the entire series, but also opt for one or more separate modules.
For those who already have in-depth knowledge and experience in classical control systems, you can participate directly in module 3 (and 4). If you are not (yet) interested in the more advanced control systems and want to limit yourself to basic classical control systems you can participate in module 1 and/or module 2.
